Origins TCG ranked: what we know about the ladder before Steam Next Fest

Ranked mode opens in the Origins TCG demo with Steam Next Fest on 19 October 2026. What Koin has confirmed: divisions, Grandmaster, VP and rewards.

In brief

  • Ranked mode switches on in the free demo with the start of Steam Next Fest, on Monday 19 October 2026, "with exclusive ranked rewards" (Koin Games' Steam post of 21 September 2026).
  • It is not new: the closed playtest has had a ranked ladder since patch 0.6.1 of 14 August 2026, and on 24 September it was still on there.
  • What the official patch notes confirm: divisions, a top division called Grandmaster with a world leaderboard, and Victory Points (VP) won and lost in ranked matches: the notes speak of a +10 and −10 change, and since patch 0.6.2 room battles no longer award VP.
  • What Koin has not said yet: the full list of divisions, whether the +10/−10 VP of the playtest stays the same in every division and in the demo, seasons and resets, what the rewards are.

We will update this guide when ranked opens in the demo.

When ranked opens

On 21 September 2026, in the post about the first big update to the demo, Koin Games wrote that it will be "turning on ranked mode with the start of Steam Next Fest, which will come with exclusive ranked rewards". Steam Next Fest runs from Monday 19 October 2026 at 10:00 Pacific time (13:00 Eastern, 18:00 UK, 19:00 central Europe) to Monday 26 October. The post gives no exact time for ranked: "with the start" of the festival is all it says.

On 24 September the Crimson Cup announcement on the official Discord said it again: the demo, which has the tournament card list, switches ranked on for Steam Next Fest, with new ranked rewards (our article). Everything else about the festival is in our Steam Next Fest guide.

What the playtest ladder tells us

Ranked has been live in the closed playtest since mid-August, and three sets of official patch notes describe it:

  • Patch 0.6.1, 14 August 2026. The ranked ladder is the headline of the update, and "Grandmaster division has a world ranked leaderboard" (patch notes). A known bug of that build: the VP (Victory Point) display went wrong once a player reached Grandmaster.
  • Patch 0.6.2, 21 August 2026. The Grandmaster League now shows each player's correct rank, VP and division, and room battles no longer award VP. Two known bugs of that build: VP were won and lost properly, but the +10 and −10 shown while the total changes had temporarily disappeared, and at the end of a Grandmaster match the VP change did not show, although the points were changing (patch notes).
  • Patch 0.6.3, 27 August 2026. In the top division the results screen was showing placeholder values instead of the player's own; now division, VP total and VP change display correctly, the +10 and −10 no longer sit on top of the VP total as it changes, and outcome, Victory Points and rank should always appear at the end of a match (patch notes).

Put together: the ladder is made of divisions, Grandmaster is the top one (patch 0.6.3 calls it "the top division") and has a world leaderboard with a rank for each player, and ranked matches move your Victory Points, with a change of +10 or −10 in the playtest notes (room battles do not, since 0.6.2). The notes quote "Diamond IV" only as one of the placeholder values shown by mistake: they do not list the divisions below Grandmaster. Our summary of the first ranked patch is in patch 0.6.1: ranked ladder and Grandmaster.

Ranked and deck unlocks

In the closed playtest, according to players on the Steam forum on 14 September 2026, a deck unlocked after three ranked wins plus a win against an AI boss; a developer answered that the team was considering making those unlock matches PvE only (our article). With the demo update of 21 September Koin confirmed that everyone keeps the progress of the demo or of the playtest, whichever is further ahead (our article).

Where to play before the festival

  • The demo is free on Steam and has the Crimson Cup card list; ranked arrives there with the festival.
  • The closed playtest already has ranked. Koin's Steam post of 25 August 2026 points to the official Discord for the instructions to access it, and on 24 September the team said the playtest will get updates that the tournament build will not have.
  • To prepare decks: the deck builder and all the Origins TCG decks published by the community, each with the game code (KGBLDC…) to paste into Origins. The 11 Legendaries that lead them are described one by one in our guide.
  • If you are preparing the Crimson Cup, which is played with three decks in Conquest: how to build the three decks.

What OriginsMeta will do with ranked

Our plan as of 25 September 2026: the first OriginsMeta tier list after the Crimson Cup finals of 25 October, built on the tournament results and on the top of the ranked ladder. Until then the tier list page shows the top-rated community decks and the most played cards, declared as previews.

What we don't know yet

  • What the "exclusive ranked rewards" are and how you earn them.
  • How many divisions there are, and their names below Grandmaster.
  • Whether a win and a loss are always worth +10 and −10 VP, as in the playtest notes, in every division and in the demo.
  • Whether ranked has seasons or resets, and whether it stays on in the demo after the festival ends on 26 October.
  • Whether ranked progress carries over to the full game.
