One month ago, at one in the morning: OriginsMeta turns thirty days old

On 15 September, at one in the morning, we put OriginsMeta online. We thought we had built a card database with a deck builder. A month later we find ourselves with thousands of people who stopped by, four languages, an app that records matches and a Crimson Cup around the corner. This is our thank you, with a few numbers and a few promises.

A September night

OriginsMeta was born from a note on a phone, on the evening of 14 September: "idea for a site". We bought the domain that same night. At one in the morning the first version was online, at half past eight there was the deck builder, and by the afternoon the card database was complete.

At 17:30 something happened that made us think we had maybe done the right thing: Luigi "Davdas" Ragoni published the first community deck, Healing Healsing. A deck site without decks is an empty shop window, but from that moment our site started working: the window would never be empty again.

What you gave us in thirty days

We didn't expect these numbers. We don't want to tell you whether they're a lot or a little: we want to tell you they're "our" numbers, the whole community's.

  • More than 6,800 people have stopped by, and so far more than 47,000 pages have been opened. On the best days more than 350 unique users visited the site.
  • 1,900 times you copied a deck code to take it into the game. It's the number we care about most: it means the site helps players play.
  • You read us mostly from Italy (45%), but also from the United States (14%), Spain (6%), France (5%), Germany (4%), Singapore (4%) and Brazil (2%), and every day people join from other countries.

That's why Spanish arrived at the end of September and French on 8 October.

There are more than 60 decks in the database, and with OriginsMeta Tracker you have recorded more than 850 matches, which today shape all the data in our Analytics.

Behind it all there are also more than 400 updates to the site, 122 cards checked one by one in the game and quite a few sleepless nights.

What we built

Rereading this month's notes, what stands out is that half of the site's features, the Tracker, Analytics and many other ideas, were born from a message on Discord or a feedback. We'll never be grateful enough for this! Keep it coming!

What's next?

The next two weeks are the most important since Origins has existed, and we want to be there.

  • From 19 October there's the Steam Next Fest, with ranked and the Crimson Cup. We'll follow the tournament day by day: the calendar is in our Next Fest guide.
  • After the Crimson Cup the first OriginsMeta tier list will come out, built on the tournament results and not on our opinions.
  • On 27 October the Alpha Edition Kickstarter starts, and we'll tell you about it here.
  • A small spoiler: we're working day and night on our first overlay for Twitch, an extension that will let you see your favourite streamer's deck and cards whenever you like, live during their matches.
  • Further ahead, without dates because we don't want to promise what we don't yet know we can deliver: a site that's easier to use on phones and tablets, maybe a dedicated app? Let us cook!

Thank you, really

To everyone who published a deck, to those who voted, to those who wrote to us "this thing doesn't work" at every hour of the day and night, to those who installed an app made by a few strangers to help us count matches: OriginsMeta is also, and above all, yours. Keep telling us what's missing on our Discord. The to-do list for the second month is already long… and we like it that way!
