Goodbye demo, hello Early Access

On Tuesday 27 October 2026 Koin Games closed the Origins TCG demo and released the game in Early Access on Steam, with version 0.8. The patch notes went up on the official Discord at 18:06 UTC (19:06 in Central Europe) and on Steam two minutes later, under the title "Goodbye Demo, Welcome Early Access": "This update marks the official end of the Origins TCG demo and the beginning of our final stretch toward 1.0!"

Origins TCG is still free: the Steam page lists it as Free To Play, and Koin writes that the game "will remain free-to-play and free-to-compete forever", during Early Access and after the full release, adding that "Early Access will feature some premium paid features". The old demo page on Steam no longer exists: our guide to playing on Steam covers download and first matches.

Your account and collection carried over

"Your account, collection, progression, and everything else now live in the Early Access version of Origins." On the Discord, Koin's Studio Head Mawr added that all progress has been migrated and that the demo can be uninstalled. One thing did not make the trip: the demo's review score, reset for Early Access. On 28 October the game page showed 100% positive reviews out of 22.

Grandmaster is open

The top of the ranked ladder opens with 0.8: players can now advance into the Grandmaster Division, and the Grandmaster Leaderboard is enabled, a worldwide ranking against every other Grandmaster player. The first ranked season of Early Access comes with limited-edition rewards for the players who finish at the highest ranks, including rewards that commemorate their placement. Koin plans to end season 1 "sometime in early December" and will confirm the date. How the ladder works is in our Ranked guide.

Card grading arrives in the game

Collectible cards can have a grade from 1 to 10, and their look now reflects it "through a variety of imperfections and effects". Koin calls it "very much a first pass" and asks players to say on Discord what works and what doesn't.

Collectible cards on the Steam Market

"Collectible cards can now be bought, sold, and listed on the Steam Marketplace." Starter gameplay cards stay yours to play with forever; the collectible versions are the ones you can own, grade, collect and now trade. Collectible cosmetics that are not cards cannot be traded yet: they will be in a future update, with no date. How collecting and playing fit together is in our guide to the collector economy.

No card changes in 0.8

The 0.8 patch notes list no balance changes, new cards or new card texts. Card stats on OriginsMeta stay those of patch 0.7 of 29 September 2026, so the card database, the deck builder and the tier lists are up to date.

The road to 1.0

"0.8 isn't the finish line": Koin expects Origins to "change quite a bit" before 1.0, with systems expanded, interfaces rebuilt and experiments that "won't survive". The Steam page gives an approximate date for leaving Early Access, "roughly March 17th, 2027", which "may change". On the same day, 27 October, Koin also opened the Kickstarter of the Alpha Edition.

What we don't know yet

  • The exact end date of ranked season 1 and the full list of its rewards.
  • When collectible cosmetics that are not cards become tradable.
  • What the "premium paid features" of Early Access will be.
