Guide

Strengths

  • Strong spell synergies: Glinda and Sorcerer's Apprentice help turn spell-heavy turns into powerful board swings.
  • Cheap spell combos: Sandman reduces spell costs, allowing you to chain multiple spells.
  • Flexible board control: Dark Omen and Merlin's Prophecy help answer dangerous enemy boards.
  • Consistent resources: Spellbook generates spells, while Ali Baba can provide additional card draw.
  • Good protection: Defense Matrix helps protect important units and maintain your spell engines.

Weaknesses

  • Weak early bodies: Your important support units can struggle against aggressive opponents.
  • Setup dependent: The strongest turns require multiple cards working together.
  • Vulnerable to removal: Losing Glinda or Sandman early can significantly weaken your strategy.
  • Limited immediate pressure: Playing Spellbook may leave you behind on the board.
  • Difficult sequencing: You need to manage spell costs, positioning, and the order of your combos carefully.

Mulligan

Priority keeps:

Against Aggro: Look for Baby Bear, Sandman, and cheap spells to survive the opening turns.

Against Control: Prioritize Sandman, Glinda, and Spellbook to establish your engine.

Avoid: Keeping too many expensive units or spells without an early play.

Key combos and lines

1. Sandman + Glinda + Cheap Spells

Sandman reduces spell costs while Glinda buffs your allies whenever you cast a spell. Chain cheap spells to build a stronger board and win trades.

2. Merlin's Prophecy + Dark Omen

Use Merlin's Prophecy to repeat Dark Omen. This creates a powerful control turn that can help deal with multiple enemy threats.

3. Glinda + Reinforcements

Reinforcements summons two Merry Men while triggering Glinda's Power buff. A great way to develop your board and increase pressure.

4. Spellbook + Sandman

Spellbook generates additional spells, and Sandman makes them cheaper. This helps you maintain resources and activate your spell synergies.

5. Van Helsing + Defense Matrix

Protect Van Helsing with Defense Matrix to keep him alive longer and continue generating his Tools before combat.

6. Sorcerer's Apprentice + Cheap Spells

Once Sorcerer's Apprentice is active, chain inexpensive spells to benefit from its spell-related ability and generate additional value.

Matchups

Vs. Aggro / Swarm — Challenging

Focus on surviving the early turns. Use Baby Bear, Reinforcements, and defensive spells to contest the board. Prioritize survival over setting up expensive combos.

Vs. Midrange — Balanced

Use your spell synergies to strengthen units and win trades. Save Dark Omen for dangerous enemy threats.

Vs. Control — Favorable if your engine survives

Establish Spellbook and protect Glinda or Sandman. Generate value through cheap spells, but avoid committing everything into a potential board clear.

Vs. Combo — Depends on Speed

Develop pressure with Glinda and your spell package. Use Dark Omen and other defensive tools to disrupt your opponent's important units.

Vs. Van Helsing Mirror — Resource Battle

Protect your spell engines, manage your resources carefully, and look for opportunities to generate more value than your opponent.
